Here again we find the verb from Acts 1:2 in Mark 16:19. Hereafter you shall see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of power, and coming on the clouds of heaven ( Matthew 26:64)Īlthough the long ending of Mark may not be original, it certainly reflects an ancient belief. This testified that Jesus ascended and remained in heaven.Įven though the gospel of Matthew does not speak of the ascension closing Christ's earthly ministry, it does allude to its result. This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw him go into heaven' ( Acts 1:9-11). Now when he had spoken these things, while they watched, he was taken up, and a cloud received him out of their sight. The Bible testifies that Jesus ascended into heaven in full view of His disciples. Jesus Ascended In Full View Of His Disciples The former account I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach, until the day in which he was taken up, after he through the Holy Spirit had given commandments to the apostles whom he had chosen ( Acts 1:1, 2). In the first chapter of the Book of Acts Luke records the following. Luke speaks of Jesus parting from them in a manner that assumes they were already familiar with the ascension account. And they worshiped him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy, and were continually in the temple praising and blessing God. Now it came to pass, while he blessed them, that he was parted from them and carried up into heaven. The only New Testament writer to record the ascension was Luke. The Bible teaches that forty days after His resurrection, Jesus ascended into heaven both visibly and bodily. One of the most significant events in the life of Christ was His ascension into heaven.
